Pre-roll, mid-roll, VMAP and SSAI explained

Understand what MEDIARAZZI serves and what remains player-side.

Advertising timing

  • Pre-roll plays before content starts.
  • Mid-roll plays during a programmed break.
  • Post-roll plays after content finishes.

These are primarily scheduling decisions made by the player/app, not intrinsic properties of an ordinary VAST tag. A placement=midroll parameter is a reporting label, not a scheduler.

VMAP

The IAB Video Multiple Ad Playlist (VMAP) specification can describe break schedules that reference ad tags. MEDIARAZZI does not currently generate a VMAP scheduling feed. Users can schedule MEDIARAZZI VAST tags in their players where player-supported.

SSAI

Server-side ad insertion stitches advertising into the media stream upstream of the viewer’s client. MEDIARAZZI does not currently provide an SSAI stitcher. Many SSAI platforms have specific VAST version, mezzanine asset and measurement requirements; assess those separately.

FAST versus VAST

FAST usually means free ad-supported streaming television, a distribution/business model. VAST is the ad-serving XML standard. They are not interchangeable.
