Roku and connected TV (OTT)

Roku RAF, app identifiers, sequence support and device privacy.

MEDIARAZZI serves VAST 3.0 Inline MP4 creatives that can be consumed by a compatible Roku Advertising Framework (RAF) integration.

Roku RAF flow

  1. The Roku app specifies an ad URL via RAF’s supported advertising API.
  2. RAF requests and parses the VAST response.
  3. RAF plays supported ad media and fires tracking beacons.
  4. The application controls its content video and ad-break schedule.

Roku documentation lists VAST 3.0 sequenced Ad Pods as supported, but VAST 3.0 skippable linear ads as unsupported. Design your breaks accordingly and test on real hardware.

Roku macros

Roku documents URL substitution values including ROKU_ADS_TRACKING_ID, ROKU_ADS_LIMIT_TRACKING, ROKU_ADS_APP_ID, ROKU_ADS_APP_VERSION, ROKU_ADS_CONTENT_ID, and ROKU_ADS_CONTENT_GENRE. The app/player substitutes supported macros. MEDIARAZZI does not magically know Roku device identifiers because a field contains the name of a macro.

Respect limited-ad-tracking preferences and platform policies. Avoid collecting raw identifiers without a valid advertising purpose and required consent.

Other OTT devices

Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS each have their own player libraries and advertising SDKs. VAST support depends on the selected integration, not just the operating system.
